A documentary filmmaker, Peter von Rehn, hasn't made a film in 20 years, due to an extensive
creative blockage. Suddenly he gets the perfect idea for a documentary when he stumbles over a
super-eight film that he shot when as a kid. The film shows his friend, Samuel, in a tower suffering
from a high anxiety-attack. Now, 40 years later, von Rehn gets the brilliant idea to make a film about
his old buddy and how he shall overcome his fear of heights by doing a bungee jump. The only
problem is that Samuel is not at all interested in this. Peter von Rehn is so in love with his idea that he
´s already gone ahead and ordered graphics and music for his comeback documentary. He sees
Samuel's initial reluctance as a great dramatic element in the film. Samuel tries to escape von Rehn
and his stupid idea, but von Rehn is really stubborn and the whole thing turns into stalking and
harassment that involves more people than both von Rehn and Samuel could ever have expected. In
the end, von Rehn gets his way and the film is made… however certainly not the way anyone
expected. ”The sweet sweetness of success” is a dark, documentary-like-comedy about the merciless
devotion that a deranged artist shows when his creative and economical honor is at stake.
